Exploration goal
Try length, mass, initial angle and gravity; observe motion, velocity and energy reacting instantly. You can enable damping to watch the amplitude and mechanical energy decrease.
Action tip
Use one preset as a starting point, change only one parameter at a time, then compare the angle-over-time charts.
Teacher tip
Encourage students to keep the other variables constant and explain the differences between the model and a real pendulum. Do not infer a proportional relationship from only two points.
Model notes
- The bob is treated as a point mass; the string is massless, inextensible and the pivot is fixed.
- Motion happens only in a single plane. The ideal model ignores damping.
- When damping is enabled, the simulation uses a simple linear damping model, not full aerodynamic drag.
- The small-angle period formula is only an approximation; the slider range is an operating limit, not an absolute physical limit.
